The Antique Automobile Club of America Museum

As far as my personal interest in classic cars goes, it probably ranks somewhere right below Japanese anime and slightly above model railroading.  I recognize that there’s something of interest there, but I don’t need to be apprised of the details.  I’ve covered this ground before.   Despite my lack of general appreciation for most things automotive, classic cars as photo subjects never cease to be interesting.  An intriguing mix of colors, lines, and details make for lots of shooting opportunities.  That’s what makes the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, PA a great stop for winter time photos.  You can get out of the cold, take lots of photos, and swing by Chocolate World afterwards to pick up some 14 lb Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

In addition to its regular offerings and the bus museum in the basement (actually cooler than it sounds… no really), there’s always a rotating inventory of exhibits, so the photos are always fresh.  During my most recent visit the museum had two new exhibits: Amore della Strada: Italian Cars (traveling) and Tucker Automobiles: The Cammack Collection, a new permanent exhibit featuring portions of the largest collection of Tucker 48 automobiles.  I’m assuming that has something to do with this Jeff Bridges movie you kind of vaguely remember renting at Blockbuster when they were all out of copies of Rain Man.

For non gear-heads like me, when you throw in the replica of a 195o’s style roadside diner and some kids activities sprinkled throughout the facility, the AACA Museum isn’t a bad way to spend a few hours on a cold February afternoon.   For those of you who don’t need an explanation of who Jeremy Clarkson is, it’s probably a fantastic way to spend the day.
